Hybrids/Chap.1/Who Am I?

Chapter 1

Who Am I?

 Fast-forward — The Future?

Saturday, November 29, 2025

You walked about fifty yards before rifle shots rang out. Horrified, I saw you fall to the ground. I couldn’t understand why those men shot an unarmed woman and were jumping up and down as if they just bagged a deer. My heart pounded as I struggled to climb down and reach the spot where you fell. You seemed dazed and confused about what had happened. Your left leg was injured, your right hand had been shot off and was still twitching on the ground by your feet. The sight of blood doesn’t bother me, but picking up your hand was distressing. I helped you up and asked if I could help you get away.

“Can you walk?”

You looked at me, nodded yes. “Why are you helping me? They might kill you.”

“Because someone has to.”

“I promise to save your life for saving mine, but…”

Even so, a promise made in desperation can be like dreams—fragile, fleeting, and easily forgotten. And yet I couldn’t forget. Dreams and nightmares have haunted me for as long as I can remember. It all began in 1953.

Flashback — Beginning 1953 — The rest of this chapter is true!

At the age of four, a vivid nightmare marked the beginning of a lifelong journey. Hearing a noise, I sat up in bed and saw a short, scary creature with enormous eyes lurking in the hallway’s darkness. It glared and started coming toward me. I called for Mom, but nothing came out of my mouth, so I screamed. Mom and Dad rushed to my bed and told me I was just having a bad dream.

Dreams can shape us in ways we barely understand. We dismiss them as fantasies, the mind’s way of playing tricks. What if they’re something more? This memory lingered throughout my life, leading to a cascade of dreams and peculiar experiences. Strange, repeated dreams with slight modifications of people and places were replaced by déjà vu dreams in 1999. After those dreams, I was haunted by a vision of brightly colored houses perched on a hill

Later, my friend Cindy told me about the SETI@home program, which spawned an idea for a fantasy vacation to visit the Arecibo Observatory. During a daydreaming episode, I hatched a plan to visit the SETI scientists in Puerto Rico and dreamed of joining the search for extraterrestrials. With little money and a Thanksgiving holiday looming, I booked myself a nonrefundable trip to Puerto Rico while playing with a travel app on my computer. It seemed impossible, but I contacted Jill Tarter and requested a tour of the SETI in November 1999. Dr. Tarter put me in touch with the project director, Dr. Peter Backus, resulting in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

After my tour, I drove toward Mayaguez. As I exited the mountains, I was distracted by the sight of brightly colored houses sitting on a hill. I couldn’t shake the image from my mind, even after I chalked it up to a coincidence. But then a horse came out of nowhere and was running alongside my car before he took off in another direction. Those were the same houses in my dream. Now, completely rattled, I rushed towards Cabo Rojo, a town known for UFO sightings. During this part of my trip, I asked God if my guardian angel was nearby. I found my way to a small local motel near the beach feeling anxious and alone. I was near tears—making notes in my journal in the attached restaurant when the owner came to my table and put me at ease. His name was Angel. After staying overnight, I drove to Fajardo and the U.S. Naval Base in search of UFOs, which brought more perplexing experiences, highlighting the blurred lines between reality and fantasy. A hike to the top of El Yunque, where rumors of strange things happening had become folklore, yielded no concrete evidence, just more peculiar experiences.

…

After my trip to Puerto Rico, I had severe back problems. In the months prior to surgery, I immersed myself in the study of alien abductions. As I emerged from the anesthesia, I didn’t remember the surgery, who I was, or know if I was even alive. I started touching things, saying, “That’s real.” I could not see clearly and touched someone next to me, saying, “Oh shit, you’re real, too.”

That’s when the nurse yelled at my brother and said, “What’s wrong with him? He keeps touching things and saying they are real.”

As I snapped back into reality, I apologized to the nurse. Now, twenty-five years later, I’m left pondering the delicate balance between reality and dreams, as well as science and science fiction. My search for identity, intertwined with extraterrestrial fascination, continues to foster vivid dreams and peculiar experiences.1-2.

Literary Agent Notice

What if the survival of humanity’s first hybrid child—and the future of interspecies relations—depended on a flawed, uninvited human teacher? Hybrids is a hard science fiction novel that blends space exploration, social commentary, and human connection into a realistic first-contact scenario.

In November 2025, JR—a disillusioned human with no intention of becoming a hero—arrives unexpectedly at an alien research station. There, he meets DAX9, a hybrid child designed to bridge the gap between humanity and an advanced alien species. The hybrids keep dying as they enter their teens. DAX’s survival is on a knife’s edge when the 12-year-old meets JR. The alien overseers strive to mold DAX into a logical, emotionless being, dismissing the human qualities that could save him. JR becomes an unlikely mentor, defying alien protocols to teach DAX the messy, emotional truths of humanity. Conflicts arise that challenge the aliens’ assumptions about whether the humans currently on Earth are worth saving.

Complete at 126,000 words, Hybrids is the first in a planned trilogy. Its contemplative tone and focus on connection will appeal to fans of Carl Sagan’s Contact and films like E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

As a debut author, I bring a unique perspective shaped by 37 years as a probation and parole officer, where I honed my skills in observation and narrative precision. My private visit to the SETI scientists at the Arecibo Observatory in November 1999 deepened my fascination with humanity’s place in the cosmos—a theme central to Hybrids.

Thank you for considering my manuscript. I would be delighted to send the full manuscript or additional materials at your request.

Sincerely,

James E. Robinson

Introduction

Have you ever had a nightmare or a vivid dream?  What if the dreams we dismiss were echoes of forgotten realities? What if science fiction weren’t science fiction at all, but glimpses of truths yet to be discovered?

Thousands of exoplanets have already been found. I believe there are many planets in our galaxy inhabited by intelligent beings. I believe they may have been here thousands of years ago and still observe our planet today.

The story that follows is a blend of facts, dreams, and imagination—told through multiple voices spanning past, present, and future. At the heart of the story is a coming-of-age, human/alien hybrid—child, born in a test tube on a space station in the fourth galactic quadrant. Humanity is at a crossroads as it stands on the edge of technological evolution and as artificial intelligence becomes our new norm. This is a story of one such hybrid—an experiment born in a void, whose destiny may redefine what it means to be human.

The events in this fictional adventure are set to begin in November 2025. Whether they remain science fiction or become reality… only time will tell.

U.S. and U.K. released UFO information in 2021

March 22, 2022 //  by et101

UFO – Unidentified Flying Object or more recently UAP, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena

Many stories, books, movies, reports and news articles have been produced on this subject. You need only Google these terms and you will find a large number of resources on this subject matter. Most UFO’s have been identified but many cannot be explained. As of 2022 no official source has been able to scientifically prove the existence of intelligent life on other planets.

What is Astronomy?

March 22, 2022 //  by et101

Astronomy
Astronomy is the science that studies the laws of the stars. It is a natural science that studies celestial objects which include planets, moons, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and comets. It also studies other phenomena which includes supernova explosions, gamma ray bursts, quasars, blazars, pulsars, and cosmic microwave background radiation. Simply stated, astronomy studies everything that originates beyond Earth’s atmosphere. (Cosmology is a branch of astronomy that studies the universe as a whole.)
Astronomy is one of the few sciences in which amateurs play an active role. This is especially true for the discovery and observation of transient events. Amateur astronomers have helped with many important discoveries, such as finding new comets.

JPL – Jet Propulsion Laboratory

March 22, 2022 //  by et101

JPL   Jet Propulsion Laboratory

JPL is a federally-funded research and development center managed by Caltech for NASA. They are our space program. The origins of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory date back to the 1930s, with Caltech professor Theodore von Kármán’s pioneering work in rocket propulsion. Arroyo Seco, a dry canyon north of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California became their test site and future home for JPL.

In 1943, the Army asked von Kármán for a technical analysis of the German V-2 program and, in their proposal, the Caltech team referred to their organization as “the Jet Propulsion Laboratory,” for the first time. JPL and the Army Ballistic Missile Agency were responsible for the launch of Explorer 1 on January 31, 1958. Explorer 1, went beyond Sputnik by carrying the first space experiment, a Geiger counter developed by James Van Allen, which discovered belts of trapped radiation encircling Earth.

Explorer 1, and JPL prompted the formation of NASA. On December 3, 1958, two months after NASA started operations, JPL was transferred from Army jurisdiction to that of a new civilian space agency. The JPL brought to NASA experience in building and flying spacecraft, a background in solid and liquid rocket propulsion systems, guidance, control, systems integration, broad testing capability, and expertise in telecommunications using low-power spacecraft transmitters. JPL now covers some 168 acres (68 hectares) adjacent to the site of the early rocket experiments. It is NASA’s only Federally Funded Research and Development Center, operated for the agency by Caltech.

In the 1960s, JPL began to develop robotic spacecraft to explore other worlds. One of JPL’s greatest missions was Voyager. Launched in 1977, twin Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft flew by the planets Jupiter , and Saturn. In February 1998, Voyager 1 passed NASA’s Pioneer 10 and became the most distant human-made object in space. In August 2012, Voyager 1 crossed the heliopause to become the first spacecraft to enter interstellar space. Voyager 2 followed it, on Nov. 5, 2018

JPL’s Mars rover is named Perseverance. It was launched July 30, 2020. Instead of mineralogy, it will specialize in astrobiology and look specifically for signs of past life on Mars. JPL spacecraft have flown to every planet in our solar system, the moon and the sun.

JPL is the world’s leading center for exploring our solar system.

Answer to Question #1

March 21, 2022 //  by et101

From: J.E. Robinson, et101.life

The Moon or Mars are close enough for a space station or base and would likely be hard to detect by a technologically advanced society from Earth in the 21st. century.

NASA Psyche Mission

March 21, 2022 //  by et101

NASA’s Psyche mission is to explore a metal asteroid orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter. The asteroid Psyche is 173 miles wide and appears to be the exposed nickel-iron core of an early planet. The Psyche space craft will have huge solar arrays that are 37 feet long. According to NASA, the mission is led by Arizona State University, while the Jet Propulsion Laboratory will be responsible for mission management, operations and navigation. They set the current launch date for August 2022.

SETI History

March 19, 2022 //  by et101

Arecibo Dome 11/26/99
Arecibo Dome 11/26/99

SETI – In 1960, Frank Drake was the first person to look for alien radio signals by using the 85-foot diameter antenna in Green Bank, West Virginia. It was known as Project Ozma, and it was the beginning of modern-day SETI. A small NASA project was funded to do SETI in a systematic way but was canceled in 1993 by a U.S. Senate vote. Since then , all SETI research in the United States has been funded by private donations. Later, millions of people across the globe processed information on their individual P.C.’s for Project Phoenix. The information was obtained from several radio telescopes, the most well-known being the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. I visited the SETI scientist at Arecibo on November 26, 1999.

Over the years SETI moved their main operations to California using the Allen Telescope Array, funded by many donors, including Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. Today, another effort to search for signals, LaserSETI has been added to the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. I believe in the SETI mission and have donated to them a number of times over the years. Follow the link for SETI.org for more information and consider making a donation. I recently sent them an email and requested that they develop a membership organization because I would like to be a “card carrying member” of their organization.

Welcome

March 10, 2022 //  by et101

Moon surfaceWelcome to et101.life! Most of the science involving astrobiology is concerned with molecular biology, biology, biophysics, biochemistry, chemistry, astronomy, cosmology, and numerous other scientific disciplines or theories. None of this deals with the social, psychological, emotional, religious, political, or financial issues mankind will have to confront when contact with an intelligent alien species occurs.

How will humans deal with beings from a non-human society?
What do we say after they say hello?
